13 Years Of Noiseworks Records

at the Kraftwerk / Zoom (Chemnitz) on September 28th, 2002

Would you travel more than 600 km just to get to a festival with groups you don't know? Maybe you wouldn't, maybe you lost a great gift. Noiseworks festivals are used to line-ups with bands who only appear in the region between Leipzig and Prague. Unfortunately those bands might not have the chance to play in Western Europe, maybe there will be some changes in the future...

Eher Uncool The evening opens with the German band Eher Uncool. You can compare their music to old Tocotronic tunes, catchy lyrics with melancholy moments and melodies. The typical music I wanna buy myself. You can put this band on every stage and listen to them every place. And the negative arguments... well it would be great to change "the very to simple structure" from time to time and not to apply it in every song. But recently Tocotronic used to produce boring records so you can get your ass up to meet the people from Eher Uncool on their tour.

Lyssa What is a typical Czech band all about? Normally and most importantly you do have a bassman in front shouting his Czech lyrics (...I think I have to learn this language), a great technician behind the drums and besides a guitar player who tries to be as noisy as he can. This will be your concept for a great Czech band, in fact they apply the term "Prager Schule" to it; to describe this music you can't apply terms like hardcore or noise. I think I will never buy a CD from Lyssa but I have to admit they are a fantastic live band as you normally expect from Czech bands.

Mad X-Ray Next gig to follow is Mad X-Ray from Leipzig. I have to admit that, what I have heard so far on CD was quite unsensational! But eh… those guys rock on stage with a little bit of melancholy from time to time. The music directly brainwashed me in the same way as the guys from Queens Of The Stone Age used to do two years ago. Some songs even might be helpful for a commercial breakthrough. You should buy their new album which has just been released a week ago, so you can discover the non-rocking moments from Mad X-Ray and the stories in between. Do so!!!

But my favourite gig on this evening, you guess it, the great black man from New York City bringing us Peace from the US to Europe with love. Sorry Lord Bishop, I think you are only the usual suspect.

Late at night Squall from Canada (...but I have to tell you they all live in Prague) appear on the stage. Hell you like noisy bands. So you have to meet them. Squall will perform in our region on November 24th 2002 near Athus. So switch off your boring TV and go to the gig, because it is a Sunday, isn't it? I pretty enjoyed their gig with a little help from my friend Backstage Beer. Further I like to thank Karsten for the invitation, I think next year in Chemnitz should be a must.
