Bayside are another Victory melodic emo core band, but contrary to the most recent publications from Chicago's number one label, Bayside donít reach the level of bands like Glasseater, Snowdogs, Silverstein or Spitalfield. A first problem is the song writing. Bayside are not able to write just slightly catchy songs as the aforementioned bands do. One of the very few exceptions is Phone Call From Poland where Bayside conceived such a sweet melody that it reminds you of Bad Religion. The band claims to have found their inspiration while listening to The Smiths, Nirvana, Stevie Wonder, The Cure or Nick Drake. These surely are important artists, but somehow not compatible with hardcore. Especially the vocals often suffer from a too strong emo touch and are just too soft for that kind of music. Bayside's songs are not catastrophically bad, but I prefer listening to other emo core bands and will leave Bayside still more time to develop their style.
