Diabolic Angel was already quite an impressive debut album by the German gothic band Bloodflowerz. A difference between both albums is that there has been a line-up change and that the five-piece has become a four-piece with a single guitar. The new CD is a concept album containing 14 songs about the seven benedictions and the seven maledictions. The Bloodflowerz have taken some distance from the gothic elements in favour of more rock and metal influences, without losing the melodies known from the debut. Singer Kirsten also seems to have developed her voice and knows to use it in more ways. Especially the harder passages are absolutely convincing. Dorian, my favourite track on this CD, underlines her qualities. The album still contains darker and more quiet moments, too (Raise The Dawn, My Treasure, Fire In Paradise), which are also played at an excellent level. I also like the acoustic Heart Of Stone because of its strange instrumentation or the experimental Unperfectly Perfect. I remember that I compared the Bloodflowerz in my last review to Lacuna Coil. This time, they have done a huge step forward and I come to the conclusion that 7 Benedictions / 7 Maledictions is a musical box full of little jewels and far more exciting than the last output by the Italians.
