Firewind is a new US power metal band from Georgia founded by the only 21 years old Greek guitarist Gus G who joined forces with former musicians of Kenziner. Their debut shows that Firewind have their musical roots in 70ies Hard Rock (Rainbow) and especially 80ies power metal (Shrapnel stuff). Producer of the CD is David T. Chastain, and so it doesn't surprise anyone that the above mentioned Gus G is a guitar hero, too. Luckily Firewind have chosen with Stephen Fredrick an excellent singer whose voice perfectly fits with melodic, but fast metal. I don't like that kind of music too much, but must admit that it is well done nevertheless. The only annoying point is that the CD contains too many guitar solos. Especially the two instrumental songs don't reach the level of the rest of the CD. But apart from this, I could imagine that this combination of a great guitar player and a well taught metal singer could bring Firewind a good position in the actual metal business.
