Minusmen are another band to underline that Germany actually is the undisputed leader in noise rock. The opener Secret Tale of their self-titled debut is an emotional noise rock song with dominating guitars and Mike Patton-like vocals. This makes you already eager to listen to the rest of the album. The song is followed by some more highlights, and especially Black Heart Youth shows real hit potential. A great chorus make this song an epic noisy masterpiece. Sometimes Minusmen also present their rawer punkish side when you listen to songs like Pink Pony or R'n'R Demon and a very melodic Laughter could also be found on a Manic Street Preachers CD. So far, Minusmen have proved that there is potential in their music. But unfortunately, there are still weaker parts that have to disappear in the future. The video edit Ruin My Day is a slo-mo song that I don't appreciate. Then there are a few songs where The Minusmen are sounding retro, but uninspired. And their instrumental Ma Ate All The Cake should better be forgotten. This surely is a nice debut, but in the future, the Minusmen need to concentrate more on their songwriting. I think it would have been better if they had just released an EP not containing more than six songs.
