Rage are real oldtimers in the German metal scene, with Soundchaser already being their 16th album published in 17 years. But it's only the third album recorded with the actual line-up: German bass player and singer Peavy Wagner, White Russian guitar player Victor Smolski and American drummer Mike Terrana. The two first songs, War Of The Worlds and especially Great Old Ones, underline immediately that no other metal band has such a precise feeling to mix fast metal riffs with a melodic chorus, respecting all laws of harmony. People who prefer the harder passages of Rage will also find their highlights on this CD while listening to the title song or to the straight-forward Human Metal. The two final tracks Falling from Grace (Wake the Nightmares - Part I and Death Is On It's Way - Part II) also features Andi Deris (Helloween) on backing vocals. Those are two really very epic symphonic songs. Every metal fan will select his favourite parts on this CD, but I doubt that there are boring parts to be discovered. Concerning the lyrics, Rage have written after Ghosts (1999) their second concept album. The creatures you see on the CD cover are soundchasers, the concept is based on an idea developed by H.P. Lovecraft.
