It's not always funny writing reviews about US death metal bands because most outputs are showing a huge lack of originality (I beg to differ; ed.). Skinless however form a great exception and show how a modern death metal album has to sound. The production made by Neil Kernon (Cannibal Corpse, Nevermore,...) is excellent. More astonishing is the fast and furious, but always precise drum playing by John Longstreth who used to play for Origin, another great American death metal band. Bass, guitar and brutally sick vocals also contribute to push Skinless to the top of international death metal. All songs on their third CD are played at such a high technical level full of interesting riffs and surprising breaks that Skinless don't need to hide behind institutions like Cannibal Corpse or Six Feet Under. The album also contains the right combination between mosh parts and more moderate stuff. The title song and Deathwork are two suitable examples that underline the band's musical abilities. Although the cover artwork is looking a bit clumsy, the CD itself presents 37 minutes of great death metal. It's a must for every fan!
