Since their inception twelve years ago, it is hard to imagine a Luxembourgish punk scene without Versus You. They have released already a lot or records and have been busy playing live shows inside and outside of Luxembourg. A short year after their EP You Better, they are back with yet another EP, titled Birthday Boys, released as a vinyl record with download code. Band leader Eric Rosenfeld, in charge of vocals, guitar and songwriting, wrote the five songs during a very creative phase in only five days.

Birthday Boy is at nearly four minutes the longest track on the EP and shows that the band’s major strength is still to combine harmonies and melodies with punk sounds. This track also shows that it was well worth it to listen too much to Hüsker Dü. This is followed by two shorter tracks of each under three minutes. IronE is a melancholic track that aims straight at the heart, and the autobiographical Loudmouth is a straighter and simpler but by no means lesser track that comes with a really amazing chorus. Rained In is very melodic and comes with an early Nineties vibe that lies somewhere between Dinosaur Jr and Weezer. The EP concludes with the rather noisy Gestures, although the final product still manages to show the band from its more melancholic side.

Don’t expect any big surprises with Versus You’s new EP, but be happy that they are back with five songs that without an exception show them from their best side. Versus You are one of Luxembourg’s most well-known and best bands, and I hardly think that this will change anytime soon.
